02/08/2019 - 24/08/2019

The Coily Dart Theatre presents Gilbert and Sullivan’s Improbable New Musical: Less Miserable. Venue 9: theSpace @ Niddry St – Lower Theatre 2/3/5/6/7/8/9/10 Aug 11.20am. Duration 55 mins. In an afterlife, Gilbert brags to Sullivan that, as fathers of the modern musical, all new musicals are basically just variations on their own plots. Sullivan challenges him to tell the story of Les Miserables using only their own songs. Gilbert agrees, but only if he can make some changes to ensure an implausibly happy ending. Expect all the Gilbertian elements: an abandoned baby, ridiculous disguises and love at first sight, alongside music from every opera and silly dances.
